Três trópicos da tropicália
oswald no oficina
I went, full of great expectations, to see O rei da Vela (The King of the Candle), Oswald de Andrade’s play rescued by Oficina from the oblivion of thirty years. I did not however, anticipate that I would find in this play both an elaboration of this sensibility and its complete negation.
Zé Celso, the director, was to become for me as a significant an artist as Glauber Rocha. Like Glauber he had an intense personal fire, but his knack for the finished product was something Glauber could not even dream of. His artistic confidence made it possible for him to let the spectator feel the space according to a profound poetics relating to the movement of bodies, the voices, the light.
